Show Your Bows!

During the month of April, we are encouraging area businesses and churches to “Show Their Bows” in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Free small and large bows are available at Gulf Coast Kid’s House and each bow set comes with an informational poster. Can’t get away from the office? Posters can be downloaded here or you can call us, 595-5783 and we’d be happy to deliver bows to you.

We encourage all participants to leave their bows up all month long. Change canisters to collect donations are also available and help to offset the cost of the bows.

The purpose of these blue ribbons is to open up a dialogue. We want to get people talking—to have them ask, “Hey, what’s that blue ribbon all about?” Because even a small act, such as wearing blue during April or posting a picture of your blue ribbon, can show children who have been victimized that they are not alone. By displaying our blue bows, we can do more than raise awareness for a worthy cause; we can also show solidarity as a community. We can tell our children that they are not alone. We can ensure that their needs are supported and that they can go From Blue to Better.

~ David Peaden, executive director of the Home Builders Association of West Florida

Get the Shirt!

Please join other child advocates in raising awareness about child abuse prevention during the month of April. In recognition of April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month, local child-centered agencies are teaming up to Blue Out Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa & Walton Counties on casual Fridays throughout the month of April!

We are asking local businesses, churches and/or civic organizations to recognize that we each can play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in the community. Show your support for healthy families by offering your employees, volunteers and/or patrons to purchase a From Blue to Better t-shirt. This is a great, fun way to show support for a worthy cause and for individuals to enjoy a casual day at the office.

Blue Out Days are encouraged every Friday during the month of April. If you would like to order From Blue to Better t-shirts for your organization or group, please contact one of our partner agencies for available sizes or call 850-595-5800.

All participating businesses and groups will be recognized on the website as well as in press releases promoting this four-county collaboration.

If you'd like to purchase a short, they will be available at Gulf Coast Kid's House.

Pinwheel Gardens

Join the National campaign “Pinwheels for Prevention” and show your support for child abuse prevention by displaying a pinwheel garden. Pinwheels for Prevention began as a grassroots campaign among Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) chapters in Georgia, Florida and Ohio. Their success and PCAAs desire to create a national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention led them to take this effort nationwide in 2008.

We also encourage you to make your own pinwheels using this handy craft sheet:
